The Kasi Insight Ecommerce Survey provides valuable insights into consumer behavior, considerations, and shopping habits in the online sphere. Beyond tracking online shopping behavior, this survey also monitors mobile and internet penetration across 20 African markets.

In its most recent findings from February this year, it was revealed that Egypt mirrors global trends in the increased adoption of smartphones, with a substantial 72% of surveyed respondents utilizing these devices for internet access, email correspondence, and app downloads. Feature phones, known for their affordability and simplicity in fulfilling basic communication needs, maintain a significant presence at 60%. Laptops, favored for both professional and educational purposes, are owned by 49% of the population. Tablets, represented by devices like iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tabs, enjoy popularity among 43% of Egyptians. Meanwhile, desktop computers (PCs) continue to be in use within 36% of households.

Gaming devices, while not as widespread as smartphones or traditional computers, attract the interest of 22% of the population, reflecting the popularity of gaming in Egypt. Landline phones, once a primary communication tool, are gradually declining, with only 10% of households retaining them. Smartwatches, representing a growing market segment, are currently owned by 7% of the population.

Household management and entertainment dominate

When examining smartphone activities among various consumer segments in Egypt, a nuanced picture emerges, revealing both distinctive preferences and common trends Universally, the predominant activity is "Household Administration," encompassing essential responsibilities like banking and managing household expenses, showcasing its integral role in daily life. This top-ranking underscores its indispensable nature. "Entertainment Apps," spanning video streaming and popular social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, consistently secure the second position, underscoring their broad appeal as hubs for leisure and social interaction. "Online Purchases" claim the third spot overall, emphasizing the growing reliance on digital shopping for its sheer convenience.

Looking at gender, both females and males prioritize "Household Administration" and "Entertainment Apps." However, males exhibit a stronger inclination toward "Instant Messaging Services" in the third spot, highlighting their penchant for real-time communication. Across age groups, Gen Xers allocate the second spot to "Online Purchases," indicating their comfort with digital transactions. Millennials elevate "Entertainment Apps" to the top of their list, while Gen Zers lean towards "Instant Messaging Services" in the third position, aligning with their preference for instant communication.

As the holiday season approaches, it is imperative for brands to customize their marketing and promotional approaches to align with the diverse consumer preferences

With a substantial 72% of surveyed respondents in Egypt utilizing smartphones for a wide range of purposes, brands should give precedence to targeting this dynamic consumer segment as they gear up for the holiday season. Smartphone users actively engage in activities such as internet browsing, email communication, app downloads, and online shopping, rendering them a highly promising market for advertising and promotional endeavors during this festive period.

Furthermore, "Entertainment Apps" such as video streaming and popular social media platforms consistently secure the second position in smartphone activities. This trend provides brands with a valuable opportunity to capitalize on consumers' penchant for leisure and entertainment during the holiday season. Crafting engaging ad campaigns and promotions on these platforms can effectively capture the attention of this tech-savvy audience.

Moreover, the ranking of "Online Purchases" at the third spot in smartphone activities underscores the growing dependence on digital shopping for its unmatched convenience. As the holiday season approaches, brands should proactively prepare for a surge in online shopping activity. Offering exclusive deals, discounts, and promotional events can be an effective strategy to entice and engage eager shoppers, enhancing the overall holiday shopping experience.
