WhatsApp followed closely with 65% usage, with Millennials showing a stronger preference for it. Additionally, other social platforms like Instagram (54%), Telegram (44%), and TikTok (34%) also played a role in holiday shopping.
WhatsApp came in a close second, with 65% of respondents using the platform for their holiday shopping needs. Notably, a substantial number of millennials expressed a preference for WhatsApp compared to their Gen X and Gen Z counterparts. Additional social media platforms that played a role in holiday shopping included Instagram (54%), Telegram (44%), and TikTok (34%).
User, product reviews top priority for purchase consideration.
Reviews on retailer websites and mobile apps take the top spot in terms of significance. They offer valuable insights into real customer experiences, providing essential information for potential buyers. Following closely in second place are product reviews in blogs or online forums, which offer detailed analyses and opinions from experts or dedicated enthusiasts.
When it comes to platforms for user comments and product reviews, Facebook and WhatsApp stand out as the leaders. They provide spaces where customers can share their thoughts and recommendations. Additionally, reviewing and unboxing videos by social media influencers hold considerable importance as well, as they combine personal experiences with a visual element, making their recommendations more persuasive and engaging.
When the influence of different factors on consumer decision-making among various demographics are explored, clear patterns emerge. User review or comments are a significant driver for males, Gen X, and Gen Z consumers, suggesting their strong reliance on peer experiences. In contrast, females and Millennials place high importance on product reviews. It's noteworthy that Gen Zs also highly value product reviews when making online purchases.
To boost sales during this year’s holiday period, brands should focus on advertising, encourage user reviews, collaborate with social media influencers and optimize their websites to be mobile-friendly for consumers.
For Ivory Coast, a platform-centric advertising strategy is key, with a strong emphasis on Facebook and WhatsApp. Encouraging user-generated content, such as reviews and ratings, and incentivizing customers with discounts can significantly boost engagement. Collaborating with influencers on these platforms can also provide authentic and influential content to drive consideration. Moreover, ensuring a mobile-friendly website is crucial, as it caters to users shopping on social platforms. Tailoring content strategies to resonate with different demographics can be a game-changer in increasing sales. Utilizing visual content, including videos, to showcase products can unlock the brand's full potential.
Additionally, crafting and promoting exclusive holiday offers, bundled deals, and limited-time discounts across relevant platforms can highlight the brand's unique value proposition.
